Edward Cooper, better known as “Coop” to his many Sun City hardware store friends, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 5, 2011. He was born in Lakewood, OH November 26, 1923, the son of Fred and Gerta Cooper. They moved to Put-In-Bay, OH, an Island in Lake Erie. Six months later, upon graduating from high school in 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a patrol bomber (flying boat) pilot in the Pacific. He then was a winemaker in the family business before moving to Tucson, AZ in 1960. There he was an electrician and ref. pipe fitter for 33 years and met his wonderful wife and best friend, Vivian. Through their blended family they have six children, Greg Cooper, Monica Lanter, and Maria Soper all of Arizona; Barbara Hettinger and Joey Hines of Indiana, and Shirley Silkey of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers Gus & Frederic Cooper and daughter Anne Marie Cooper. After retirement, Ed and Vivian traveled the U.S. for 13 years doing “volunteer” church building and repair. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Evangel Assembly of God Church, 10701 W. Boswell Blvd., Sun City, AZ. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
