Dr. Edwin James Clinger passed away on March 7, 2023 in Peoria, Arizona. Ed was born on March 3, 1923 in Jackson Township, Hardin County, Ohio. Ed was bound and determined to make 100 years, and he did! He was surrounded by friends and family on his 100th birthday and he even joined in singing happy birthday to himself.
Ed was the second of nine children born to Gail and Wilbur Clinger. Elsie Elizabeth Clinger Hummel, Phillip Charles Clinger, Joyce Ellen Clinger Loepprich, Julia Irene Clinger Weaver, Ann Louise Clinger Loeffler, Albert Benjamin Clinger, Ferne Lucille Clinger Allan and Frank Wilbur Clinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Elsie, Julia, Ann, his brothers Phillip and Albert, wives Doris Eileen Ralston Clinger, Joanne Perkins Clinger and his daughter Karen Eileen Mueller Thorsen. He is survived by his wife Fran Clinger, son James Craig Clinger and grandson, Asher. He also has two grandsons, Daniel and James Mueller, from his daughter Karen.
Ed graduated from Upper Sandusky High School and Ohio State University with both a bachelor and medical doctor degree. After medical school, he moved to Forest, Ohio and went into general practice for several years. Ed was very proud of the fact that he delivered 101 babies during this period of time. At the outbreak of the Korean War, Ed enlisted in the Army and served at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. From there Ed decided to go to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to intern as a Dermatologist. After completing his internship, Ed moved to Denver, Colorado and established a Dermatology practice near Porter Hospital. Upon retirement, he sold his practice and he and his wife, Joanne, moved to Sun City, Arizona. After Joanne’s passing, Ed married Frances “Fran” McEvoy on February 13, 2010. Over the years, they have been very active in the community and The Congregational Church of Sun City, both singing in the choir.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 29, 2023 at 11:00am at The Congregational Church of Sun City, 18401 North 99th Avenue, Sun City. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Clinger’s memory can be made to The Congregational Church of Sun City. The internment ceremony, with full honor guard, will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 12:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona.
