Doris Mae Schulte, 87, of Peoria, Arizona, formerly of Silvis, Illinois, died October 29, 2011 at her home in Peoria, after a brief illness. Doris was born September 9, 1924, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Susan Smith and Ferdinand Long. She was raised by her mother and step-father Vital Huyvaert in East Moline, Illinois. After graduating from United Township High School in 1942, Doris enlisted in the women's army corps (WAC), and served in the medical corps during World War II. She also worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. Doris married William A. Schulte on April 26, 1947, in East Moline. The couple moved to Arizona in1977 upon his retirement from John Deere Foundry. William passed away from Alzheimers in July 1996. Doris enjoyed Church, the Diamondbacks, bingo, gardening, traveling , and spending quality time with her family. She is survived by her son Greg, his wife Nancy, two grandchildren, Scott and Stephanie (all from Glendale, Arizona) and sister Vicki Sue Huyvaert of East Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and five sisters, Erma DeDoncker, Katherine Schorpp, Virginia Adams, Margie Wietlispach and Norva DePoorter. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at St. Joachim & St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, AZ.
