Our dad, Donald Lozelle Wade, passed away February 13, 2022. Born on October 5, 1926, to Charles and Bernice Wade of Perry, Illinois, he was the youngest of four children.
Dad met the love of his life, Lorine Couch, in 1947. After marrying in 1949, they both worked for Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois where he spent 8 years in the IBM data processing department. In 1960 they moved our young family to Colorado Springs where they lived for 27 years.
It was there that Daddy became involved in Kiwanis International. As a Lifetime member, he stayed deeply involved with Kiwanis for over 40 years. Golf was also a long-time passion, but he had a love/hate relationship with the game; he could throw a club almost as well as he could swing one!
As a computer programmer he taught programming at Widefield High School in Colorado Springs and then worked as a computer systems analyst as a civil servant at the United States Air Force Academy for 20 years. He retired from there about 1987. The folks then moved to Sun City, Arizona where they spent their retired years summering in their motorhome, traveling to Europe and Canada for Kiwanis conventions, and taking a few cruises.
Daddy was a prolific reader of American history, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan. He loved the Rocky Mountains and everything western (books, TV, art). He was dedicated to his church, the family that raised him and the family he raised.
Dad was preceded in death by our Mom, his wife of 70 years, Lorine; his older brothers Dick and Merle Wade; and his older sister Dorothy McKinney.
He is survived by his hearing dog, Petey; two dedicated daughters, Sheryl (Tom) McClain of Sun City and Nancy Wade (Tom Williams) of Moab, Utah; three grandchildren – Daniel (Kate) McClain, Steve Stich (Dayna Murphy), and Karen (Travis) Kincher; and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, Arizona on Saturday, March 12th at 10:00 a.m.
Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Sunshine Services in Sun City, or Faith Presbyterian Church.
(And, yes, we still call him Daddy!)
