Donald Edward Shirk, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27th at Saint Joseph Hospital in Phoenix. He was born on April 24th, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to Elizabeth (Lamson) and Donovan K. Shirk. Don was a 1958 graduate of Mayfield Heights High School. He served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States, Navy from 1963 to 1965. On April 2nd, 1966 in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Don married Gail Joyce (Green). They celebrated 50 years of marriage just last year. They moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1973 where Don built his career as a chemical sales representative for Van Waters and Rogers, and later Hill Brothers Chemical Company. He was a natural in sales because he excelled at developing relationships with people. There wasn't a soul who didn't like Don...you couldn't help it. He had a sparkle in his eye and a song in his heart. His excitement for life was contagious. From camping and boating to four-wheeling in his beloved Jeep, Don enjoyed every aspect of life. Don was the greatest storyteller, and his knack for describing every detail made his adventures come to life. Not only did he tell tales of what was, but he imagined what could be. His ability to dream was unsurpassable, and it was this unique trait that drew people to him. Don's charm would make your heart smile, and he is smiling upon all of us. Don is survived by his wife, Gail; two daughters, Stacy Friedberg and Robyn Heffernan; and five beautiful grandchildren, Jenna Friedberg, Ryan Friedberg, Chase Heffernan, Grayson Heffernan, and Peyton Heffernan.
