Donald Basabe, 89, of Sun City West, Arizona, passed away on February 13, 2022, surrounded by family.
He was born to parents James and Catherine Basabe in Boston, Massachusetts. Don served in the U.S. Navy for three years during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he began a long career as a composer in the newspaper business. Don is survived by the love of his life, Geraldine (Gerry) who he married in 1961. Don is also survived by son Stephen Basabe and his wife Kristen and daughter Donna Beels and her husband Jim, his four grandchildren, Connor (Christina), Alexis, Josh and Lauren, and many relatives.
Don was an extremely hard worker, dedicated and determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. There wasn’t anything that Don couldn’t build or fix. He loved tinkering on cars, working with wood and was always ready to help family and friends with projects.
Don will forever be remembered for his kind and loving spirit. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of his two children, their spouses and four grandchildren.
A private service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on March 7, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
