David Klock

August 16, 1944 — April 18, 2019

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, David Klock, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 74. David was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on August 16, 1944 to Dorothy and Kenneth Klock. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1956 and in 1962 he met his future wife, Carol, at the age of 17. He joined the United States Navy in June 1962 as a Corpsman. On June 13, 1964, David and Carol got married. David and Carol had two children, Julie and Jeffery, as well as three grandchildren, Justin, Noemi, and Jessica. David left the Navy in August 1965, eventually working in the aerospace industry and retired from Honeywell in 2010. David had already enlisted in the Navy in 1962 before meeting his future wife, Carol. The two quickly fell in love but David had to leave for work soon after. Two years later, the day after Carol graduated high school, the two married on June 13, 1964. The two moved to San Diego, California where they started their family. Not long after their first child, Julie, was born, they moved back to Phoenix, Arizona and began their life here. The two celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in June 2018. David was a devoted family man. He was always there for his children from the moment they were born to the end of his life. When Julie and Jeff were children, some of their fondest memories were their participation in Pop Warner Football. Julie was a cheerleader, Jeffery played football, and David and Carol coached. The family enjoyed taking family vacations to the White Mountains and Greer. Trips to Oceanside, California became a family tradition that he carried over to his grandchildren. David was a loving and devoted Papa to his grandchildren. Growing up, David never missed any sports game, choir performance, or awards ceremony of his grandchildren. In October 2012, David’s grandson, Justin, joined the United States Navy as a Mineman, something David was incredibly proud of. David and Justin enjoyed swapping stories about their experiences in the Navy, going to hockey games together, and watching action movies together. David was also incredibly proud of his granddaughter, Jessica. In 2012, when Jessica was a freshman in college, David spent many weekends driving Jessica to and from Tucson, Arizona and enjoyed hearing about her experiences at school. In 2018, when Jessica became a teacher, David loved hearing stories of happenings in her classroom. In 2013, Justin introduced his family to his wife, Noemi. David quickly took Noemi in as a grandchild and showed her the same love and devotion to her as he did to the rest of his family. David was an enormous part of his grandchildren’s lives and will be incredibly missed. David was an animal lover. After losing his beloved Mitzi, his dog of 14 years, David took several years to decide to get another dog. After mentioning being ready for another dog in his life, his granddaughter, Jessica, found a dog resembling his beloved Mitzi. David quickly fell in love with the dog, Mac, and in December 2016, the Klock family adopted Mac. David and Mac shared a special bond, and Mac will greatly miss his dad. David had a quick wit and infectious sense of humor. Family and co-workers recount that he always had an opinion for everything, and he loved writing in to the Letters to the Editor column in the newspaper. David is survived by his wife, Carol, his children, Julie and Jeffery, and grandchildren, Justin, Noemi, and Jessica. A service will be held on May 4, 2019 at Menke Funeral Home at 10 o’clock in the morning. Following the service, guests are invited to celebrate David’s life at the Klock residence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in his honor to the Arizona Humane Society, David’s favorite charity.
