David Beers

David Conger Beers, age 86, passed away on June 25th, 2018. David lived with his wife Mary Ann Losinski (Walter) Beers in Sun City, Arizona. Born on October 31, 1931 in Bronxville, New York to Robert Edmond Beers and Ruth Conger Beers. David grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. David has a younger brother Robert Edmond Beers, Jr and a younger sister Elizabeth Grace Beers Diskin. While growing up he enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Ho-Ho-Kus and Newtown, Connecticut where many relatives lived. He graduated from high school in Tucson, AZ, attended Rutgers University and proudly served in the US Air Force. In 1961, David and his former spouse, Lois McKinnon Beers started Beers Flower Shop, which is still a thriving business in Ridgewood, NJ. They had two children: Janet and Peter Beers. David was very busy with the business, yard work, yard play, the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, Mt. Peter Volunteer Ski Patrol and the Ramapo Ski Club at Mad River Glen Ski Area, Vermont. In 1974, when David and Lois divorced, he moved to Guam, Albuquerque, New Mexico and finally settled in the Phoenix, AZ area. There, he worked for the State of Arizona, Department of Transportation for 20+ years and built a house in New River, AZ. After retiring, David moved to Sun City, AZ and soon met his wife Mary Ann Walter. They were active with the bowling, camping, hiking, gardening and RV clubs. They enjoyed traveling, photography and supporting family activities. Together they had an active and happy retirement. David is survived by his wife Mary Ann, her family in AZ, WA, and the Midwest, his daughter Janet Attard of Lakeport, CA, his son, Peter (Theresa) of Woodinville, WA and grandchildren Jonathan, Ian, Alex Attard; Kathrine, Emily, Derek Beers and siblings Bobby (June) of Port St. Lucie, FL and Betsy Diskin of Groveland, MA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Suzanne Beers (Paul Baye) of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael (Erica) Diskin of Boston, MA and Kelly (Shawn) Procurot of Groveland, MA, and great-nieces, Lindsey and Erin Procurot. He was preceded in death by his parents. David was a life member of the American Legion, John H. Harries Post 101, Sun City, AZ, as well as being a life member of the Sun City Lodge BPOE #2559. A celebration of David’s life to be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 with interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
