Dave Fletcher

December 31, 1969 — August 23, 2011

Dave Fletcher died on August 16, 2011 two weeks shy of his 85th birthday. Dave grew up an Oklahoma farm boy. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a walk-on football player at the University of Oklahoma. He worked as a mud engineer for Baroid (Haliburton) and later was an instructor at Haliburton’s mud school in Houston. Dave enjoyed his work. As you know he also thoroughly enjoyed having fun with friends and family. He was a pleasure to be around on the golf course. He was always up for a poker game. He loved playing bridge with his friends. He could pass hours playing gin with a close friend. “Work hard. Be responsible, but remember to take time to experience life.” Dave thoroughly enjoyed membership in Tomball Country Club (Tomball, TX). He traveled in Europe, Africa, Asia, New Zealand, and much of the United States. He taught his son to hunt ducks and catch fish. He taught him how to play sports. He taught him how to live life. Dave’s final adventure brought him here to Sun City where he was made to feel welcome by his wonderful new friends. Throughout his life he cherished time with each of his three sisters and their families. Dave went to bed on Monday, August 15, pleasantly anticipating gathering with his bridge club the next day. He died peacefully in his sleep. It was a life well-lived. If he was here today, Dave could hold his head high, smile his welcoming smile, and say, “I used it all up.“
