Darrell (Whitey) Stewart, age 89, died Dec 25, 2016 in Sun City, AZ from complications of pneumonia. Darrell was born in Casper, WY on Nov 5, 1927 to Charles and Elsie Stewart. At the age of 12 the family moved to Sinclair, WY. He attended school in Rawlins and served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to Rawlins and entered the restaurant business. In 1952 he married Alice Neyens in Winner, SD. For the next 33 years he was in the restaurant and bar business. In 1968 he was appointed Manager of the Sinclair Hotel and managed it until the Sinclair Oil Corp. closed it in 1978. In 1966 he opened the Robo Car Wash and operated it until it was sold in 1981. He was a devoted father and taught his four children to ski, which they all enjoy to this day. His great love for the outdoors prompted him to start Whitey's Guiding Service which he operated until he retired in 1982. He and his wife retired to a mountain home near Encampment, WY to spend their summers. Their winters were spent in Sun City, AZ. While in Arizona, Whitey became an avid runner. He participated in over 400 races, race walks, marathons and The Senior Olympics, in Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming. His latest was the Nov 6, 2016 Phoenix 10k, 5k, and half marathon, he finished 4th in his division in the 5k. He was a member of the Elks Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Catholic Church, Saratoga. WY. Mr Stewart is survived by his wife Alice, daughter Nancy, Peoria, AZ, three sons and their wives, Lance and Linda, Grand Junction, CO, Mark and Annette, Laramie, WY, and Leo and Mariann, Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren Brian and Amanda Stewart, Daniel and Andrea Stewart, Renae and Paul Bonjourno, Mark Charles Stewart, Amanda Stewart, Sara and Thomas Harper, Christopher Stewart and Andrew Stewart. His parents preceded him in death. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at a later date. Burial of his cremains will follow in the Rawlins Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul's or St. Jude's Hospital.
