Daniel Peter Broderick, Sr., age 92, a resident of Sun City, Arizona, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2020 with his family at his side.
He was born June 25, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Peter and Antoinette Broderick. He completed high school at the age of 17 and enlisted in the Airforce Reserve, and later with the United States Army during World War II. He spent a portion of his time (one and a half years) in Germany.
After his military service, Daniel entered the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he moved to Phoenix Arizona and was employed by general engineering contractors including the Arizona Highway Department and the Corp of Engineers, Omaha district. Thereafter, he formed and operated his own general contracting company, which he operated successfully for 18 years before retiring.
He married in 1956 to Marjorie L. Goodman of Fort Worth, Texas. Marjorie passed away after 13 years of marriage due to a fatal aneurysm. Surviving Marjorie were husband Daniel, three sons, Daniel Jr., David, John and their daughter Karen.
In 1970, Daniel became the proud husband of Patricia A. Tietjen, a widow and family friend, with three children. The marriage united the two families adding three stepchildren, Deborah (deceased), Elizabeth and Robert Bruce. Dan and Pat celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before his death.
Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, ASU Football, swimming, boating and vacations with his family. He was the president of the Sunnyslope Little League in 1968 and six of the children participated on baseball and softball teams with the youngest cheering them on!
He became a pilot in 1997 and was a fan of Cessna aircraft. He owned and flew a Cessna Cardinal, the Cessna 150 Trainer, Cessna 172 and the Cessna 182.
Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia, his sons Daniel Jr., David, John and daughter Karen, his stepdaughter Elizabeth and Stepson Robert Bruce and over 20 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Deborah.
Daniel asked that in lieu of flowers contributions would be made in his honor to his favorite nonprofit group St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
