86 of Sun City, Arizona passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014. Clay is survived by his daughter, Debra Berkheimer; granddaughter, Amy Berkheimer; son-in-law, Terry Berkheimer, and his brother, Michael Veesart. Clayton was born on March 18, 1927 in Barberton, Ohio. He graduated from Medina High School where he played the trumpet in their band and was also one of the star quarterbacks on their football team. He attended college at Akron University majoring in civil engineering and during his 1st year was drafted into the military during the Korean War. He was in the army jazz band and traveled and entertained our troops in Korea. He returned to Akron from his tour of duty and finished his degree at Akron University. He met the love of his life, Florence, and were married in 1954. They moved to Copley, Ohio and spent 43 years there surrounded by family and friends. Clay worked for Freeman Construction Company in Wooster, Ohio, as a Construction Superintendent. He built many buildings throughout Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. He retired from Freeman Construction Company and enjoyed his retirement by playing golf, bowling, swimming, traveling and watching football (Ohio State and Cleveland Browns) and baseball (Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks) games. Clay and Florence moved to Sun City, Arizona in 2005 to be closer to their daughter and her family. He will be missed by many, and is now reunited in heaven with Florence and the many family and friends that passed before him. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Interment to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
