Charlie "CT" Boyd

December 31, 1969 — August 3, 2012

Charlie Talton (CT) Boyd Jr, 80, went to his heavenly home on July 23, 2012. CT was born January 29, 1932 in Ore City, TX to Charlie T. and Elizabeth Boyd. He was one of eight children. At age 14 he moved with his family to Artesia, NM. In 1950 CT began his employment with Southern Union Gas but that career was put on hold when he was drafted into the US Army in 1953. After serving 2 years at Ft Richardson, Alaska he returned to Artesia and continued with Southern Union Gas. He married the love of his life, Charlene Scarbrough in Artesia, NM on October 10, 1954. This union was blessed with three daughters. Throughout the years in NM, CT was active in the Artesia Police Dept, NM State Police and the Artesia Fire Dept. He also was active in Calvary Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon. In 1972 the family was transferred by Southern Union Gas to Flagstaff, AZ where he lived for the next 33 years. After leaving Southern Union Gas he owned and operated MAC Tools and later MATCO Tools for a total of 20 years. In between the two businesses he worked for Babbitt Ford and Tyrell Chevrolet. In 1994 CT and Charlene were able to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling fulltime for the next 6 years until their health prevented. They retired fulltime to Sun City, AZ in 2004. CT is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlene. His three daughters, Vicki Wilcox, Cheri (Roger) Burian and Jani (Donald) Phelps. His six grandchildren, Crystal Burian, Kory (Brittany) Wilcox, Dusty Burian, Kayla Wilcox, Ashlee Phelps and Zack Phelps. His four sisters, Beulah (Everett) Hardesty of Silver City NM, Louisa Judd of Hurst, TX, Lois (Bud) Jurney of Artesia NM and Roxie James of Texas and one brother-in-law, Don Scarbrough of Artesia, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two brother-in-laws and one son-in-law, Dennis Wilcox. A Memorial Service will be held August 11, 2012 at 11 AM at 1st Baptist Church 11019 W.
