Charles Franklin Dougherty Jr. went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2015 in Sun City, Arizona. He was born on May 23, 1935 in Merced, California, the son of Charles & Grace Dougherty. Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years; the love of his life, Eula Mae Dougherty. He leaves three daughters; Deborah Meyers (John), Cheryl Powell (Tim), Martie Berkheimer (Brad), and one son, Charles F. Dougherty III (Tammy). He also leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters; Melba Hale of Texas and Ardell Cutshall of California, three nieces; Kathy Malone-Griego (Tomas), Paula Cutshall-Fasnacht (Cliff), and Michelle Cutshall Edson (Tim). Charles moved from Merced to Salinas, California with his family in 1945. He attended Prunedale Elementary School, Washington Junior High, and Salinas High School where he was a featured soloist for the A Cappella Choir and a member of the Concert Band. Charles went to work at the Salinas Rural Fire Department on May 23, 1965, and served both there and at North Monterey County Fire Department until his retirement at the rank of Captain on December 31, 1990. Charles deep faith in our Lord led him to serve as a Deacon at Bolsa Knolls Baptist in Salinas, and First Baptist Sun City. The life of Charles will be celebrated in a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 20 at the Menke Funeral & Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sun City, AZ.
