Catherine Bernadette Moshier, 52 of Avondale, passed away December 19th following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 30, 1955 in Camden, NJ and moved to Arizona in 1988. Wife, mother, and nurse, she had a great capacity to love and care for others. Cathy began her career in medicine as a physical/occupational therapist in the U.S. Navy. After taking several years to raise her children she attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and obtained her B.S. in Nursing. From there she spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical/Surgical Nurse. In 1992 Catherine transferred to the U.S. Public Health Service where she spent time as a labor and delivery nurse at the Phoenix Indian Medial Center, a public health nurse on the Salt River and Navajo Reservations, and a prison nurse in the Federal Prisons. In 2001 Catherine obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. After obtaining her degree she moved on to become a member of the U.S. Public Health Service Rapid Deployment Force Team. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Moshier; 3 children: Brian, Christina, and Legna. Additionally, she was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Jonathon, Nancy, Erin, Folashade, Zuriel and Phoebe. She is also survived by her parents, Joseph and Mary Novack, and her 5 siblings: Patricia, Mary, Theresa, Joseph, and Ann Marie. She touched many lives in her time and was beloved by all. A memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Rd. in Avondale at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 22nd. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley in her memory.
