Bhismoutie (Chan) Kaladeen was born on December 30, 1929 in Leonora, West Coast Demerara, Guyana to Gobin and Sukhiya Singh. She was the second of three children including her older brother Mahadeo Singh and younger brother Gurudeo (Indall) Persaud.
She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Richard Kaladeen, Steve Kaladeen (Amena Kaladeen), Romeo Kaladeen, Vick Kaladeen (Rama Kaladeen), Hilda Kaladeen, Ayhelia (Kaladeen) Dawson (Benjamin Dawson, deceased), eight grandchildren: Chris Kaladeen (Hema Kaladeen), Melissa Dawson Maze (David Maze), Afsheen Farhadi, Cherie Kaladeen, Amanda Leach (Steve Leach), Shana Dawson Fish (Kiyoshi Fish Sr), Chanell Kaladeen, and Nadine Kaladeen and her six great grandchildren: Olivia Fish, Charlotte Fish, Rayon Kaladeen, Kiyoshi Fish II, Aydin Kaladeen, and Luka Welch.
Bhismoutie met her future husband, Seecharan, through her brother in 1945. He was instantly enamored and knew undoubtedly that she was the one for him. He actively courted her and eventually asked her parents permission for her hand in marriage. During his proposal, he promised he would never let a single hair on her head be harmed. They were married on April 14, 1946. They went to spend 73 years of life together until Seecharan’s death on May 8, 2019.
Aside from raising her six children, Bhismoutie and Seecharan owned and operated a clothing store called Stabroek Bazaar in Georgetown, Guyana for 12 years. After the birth of her final child, she dedicated her life to being the family matriarch.
Bhismoutie moved to Phoenix, AZ just in time for the birth of her first grandchild in 1983. She extended the love she had for her children to her grandchildren while helping care for and raise them. She continued to grace the generations with her incomparable culinary skills. She was an expert in the kitchen and some of her infamous meals include her fabulous roti and eggplant choka, tasty bake, and savory dumplings.
Bhismoutie was very involved in her Indian culture. She enjoyed watching Bollywood films and listening to religious Hindu music.
She also enjoyed simple pleasures such as a cup of coffee in the morning, watching the Phoenix Suns play basketball, telling stories of her childhood, reconnecting with long distant relatives, and watching all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up.
In the final years of her life, she was cared for by her children and daughter-in-law until she suffered an unfortunate accident at home.
On July 17, 2021 at noon she was ready to move on peacefully at 91-years-old with her son by her side, Romeo Kaladeen. She has now reconnected with her parents, her brothers, her nephew, her son-in-law, and her husband.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 23 at 1:00 PM and a service to follow at 3:00 PM, at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Avenue.
