Betty A. Lawlor, 85, of Sun City, AZ passed away December 14, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. with rosary at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ and will be officiated by Father Raymond Greco and Deacon Stan Giza. Burial will take place in New Jersey at a later date. Betty was born to John and Florence Sellick on May 21, 1931 in Hillside, NJ. She graduated from Hillside High School and went to work as a bookkeeper before marrying and settling down to raise her family in 1952. After a much earned retirement she and Bill moved to Sun City, AZ and became members of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. Betty was a devoted member of the Women’s Guild at St. Clement of Rome church and a tenacious volunteer for all the many projects the Guild took on to earn money for local charities. She was recognized as “Woman of the Year” in 2009 for her many contributions to the Guild. Betty also enjoyed volunteering at the Bell Center “Friends of the Library”. Betty belonged to the Red Hat group “Sunsationals”, which she enjoyed very much. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence; her husband of 59 years, William and son Kevin. Betty is survived by her children William (Linda), Mary (Steve), Jean (Amy), Timothy, 6 grandsons and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John (Marge) Sellick and sisters Joan Hunziker and Patricia (Robert) Beaudoin, many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014, (602) 530-6900 or Valley View Food Bank, 12321 NW Grand Ave., El Mirage, AZ 85335. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to Hospice of the Valley for their generous support in her final weeks and days.
