Betty Howell

November 28, 1930 — September 25, 2018

Betty Joe Howell passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday September 25, 2018. She was born in Wayne County, Indiana on November 28, 1930. Her parents were Jesse and Alice Hughes. She came from a family of eleven children. She has one surviving brother that lives in Colorado, Skeet Hughes. Her family moved from Indiana to Arizona when she was about 14 years old. Betty married Ivan Ray Winn and they had three children together. Jeanie Scritchfield, Terry McEvoy, and Tony Winn. During her 87 years of life she had a variety of jobs. She worked for Grubers sewing factory in Glendale for many years. She decided to start her own cleaning business out here in Sun City. She worked with many families, not only helping them organize their homes but helped with many needs they could not do by themselves. She kept extremely busy with her business for about 25 years. Anyone that knows Betty, knows that she did not sit down for very long at a time. She thrived on being busy, she didn’t want to waste a minute. She was always on the go! Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved all the costumes, parties, and being surrounded by friends. She enjoyed dancing, playing shuffleboard, volunteering at bingo, volunteering at the nearby thrift shops, camping, fishing, working in her yard and going to Rocky Point. She lost her sweetheart “Casey” of 16 years last December. Three months later she was in the hospital herself with heart failure. It was a very difficult time for her. Her health forced her out of her home and into an independent living apartment. At first, she said she didn’t belong there, “it was for old people”; She slowly adjusted and began to realize why she had to move. Thank you to all the friends that came to see her and help her through that period of time. Betty is survived by her three children Jeanie, Terry 7 grandkids, 9 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids. Her famous quote when the family all got together, and all the grandkids were running around and playing was “And I started this whole mess!” Here is another quote that we should all remember: “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal”. Friends and family will gather together to say farewell to Betty on Wednesday October 3rd at 10:30 am at Menke’s Funeral Chapel, 12420 N 103rd Ave. Sun City AZ. 85351.
