Betty Gene Brazill Whitney of Glendale, AZ passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the age of 89. Betty was born to parents John S. and Edna L. Brazill on February 16, 1928 in Phoenix, AZ at St. Joseph’s Hospital. At two weeks of age, she moved to Glendale, AZ which became her lifelong residence. She was married to Charles Whitney on September 16, 1947. They joined Brazill Mortuary in Glendale, founded in 1926 by her father, after Charles’ discharge from the Army Air Corp. Betty assisted her husband until 1971 when she left to work in her chosen profession. Betty completed her education and worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals in the valley until she retired in February 1993. During her life, she enjoyed her family, friends, travelling, bridge and knitting. She was also involved in a number of organizations including member of Glendale Women’s Club, past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #20 of Glendale, member of PEO Chapter C of Glendale, member of Daughters of the Nile of Phoenix, and member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Although a widow and only child, Betty is survived by a large and loving family including daughter Michelle Neelley (Allen); sons Charles R. Whitney (Judy), John V. “Jocko” Whitney, and Brett Whitney (Cindy); granddaughters Tamara Whitney-Dungan, Lori Oberbroeckling, Erin Elbert and Ashley Laing; grandsons Richard Whitney, Ryan Whitney, and Hunter Whitney; and 22 great-grandchildren. A private memorial will be held with the family.
