Bernard "Bernie" Mulvey, of Surprise, AZ, passed away January 3, 2012 at age 79. Bernie was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late William Mulvey and Alice (Dominger) Mulvey. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States army, serving three years during the Korean War. Thereafter, he proceeded to work his way through college (New York University), as well as law school (St. John's University), and was admitted to practice law in both New York and California. Bernie married a fellow law student, Michelle, and the two of them maintained a successful law practice for over thirty years in Southern California, as well as a very happy marriage for over 48 years. Bernie and Michelle retired to Arizona in 2004, where they formed yet another partnership, playing as a team in duplicate bridge tournaments across the country. Michelle continues to make her home in Arizona. Bernie is also survived by a son, Bern, Bern's wife (Eiko), and grandchildren Shinto, Mizuki, Takato, and Rizuki, all of Morioka City, Iwate, Japan, and by a second son, John, and John's wife (Irina), of Seaside, CA. Bernie is also survived by two brothers (William and Donald), one sister (Mary Ann), and several nephews and nieces. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Funeral mass is 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 17111 W. Bell Rd., Surprise, AZ. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
