Bernabe Sandoval

Bernabe “Berna” Sandoval, 79 was born in San Juan, New Mexico on Dec 18, 1938 to Joselino and Florinda Sandoval, passed away on October 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 1945 and resided there until 2005 when he moved to his current residence in Phoenix, Arizona. He married the love of his life Mary, on September 9, 1961 and through this union were blessed with six children. He retired from the City of Flagstaff after 32 years as a blue stake locator in the Utilities Department. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and was active in all these activities until later in life when his health would not permit it. He continued to Love and cherish his Family by spending all Holidays with them, celebrating and enjoying each other’s company up until his death. He was loving man with a huge heart and enjoyed laughing, playing, and creating funny nicknames to his siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at every opportunity. One of his greatest accomplishments was learning to read from his favorite newspaper, the AZ Daily Sun, which was heightened due to an accident to his Father in which he had to quit school in the 6th grade to help support a family of 18 children. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife Mary and his children, Joe Sandoval, Eleanor (Leandro) Carrillo, Lisa (Daniel) Araiza, Michael (Rachel) Sandoval, Eva Sandoval-Tafoya and Elaine Sandoval; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; Brothers, Juan, Alex, Ray, sisters, Corrine, Gloria, Mary, Alice, Patsy as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving daughter-in-law Jodie Sandoval and his granddaughter Maria Montes as well has his parents and siblings. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ. Rosary will be 10:00 a.m. with funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12. 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 8615 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345.
