85, of Litchfield Park died on December 9th, 2012. Barbara was married to Ira L. Kimes Jr. and was the mother of Charles L. Kimes. Barbara and Ira “Iwo” Kimes lived in Litchfield Park for 34 years after Iwo retired from Luke Air Force Base. Iwo still resides at the family home in Litchfield and Charlie lives in Scottsdale with his wife Michaelle, sons Andrew (16) Benjamin (13), and daughter Katherine (11). Barbara had a wonderful disposition and a love of life, adventure, and friendship. Some of our fondest memories as a family were simply enjoying one another's company and laughing over life's little moments. Barbara was a strong Christian and it goes without saying that "family" was at the top of her list. She was especially fond of her daughter- in-law Michaelle and her three grandchildren (Andrew, Benjamin, and Katherine), each of whom were equally fond of her! Barbara was the daughter of Oscar and Alice Schlenker and the sister of two older brothers (Joe and Jon Schlenker), all of whom predeceased her. She was also very close to their wives Eunice and Maxine Schlenker and all the nieces and nephews - Kathy, Kerry, Kim, Steve, Greg, Reuven, and Cheryl. We have received many notes of condolence from them regarding the positive influence that Barbara had on their lives. Barbara was born and raised in Bellflower/Los Angeles, California. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Southern California and served as a nurse in the Veterans Administration and as a Captain in the United States Air Force. Barbara earned the admiration, fondness, and respect of her family and friends. And only by knowing that she would have wanted happiness for us, can we begin to repair our broken hearts. In the end, we will again find joy in her honor, and when reflecting on her presence in our lives be truly grateful and thankful - we will miss and love her forever. A Memorial Service will be held in Barbara's honor at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 at the Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N. Old Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, Arizona. A reception will follow at the Church.
