Arthur Elden Robinson was born to parents Ruth M. (Jennings) and Wilfrid Robinson on June 24, 1925 in Highland Park, MI. Art grew up in Utica and Plymouth, MI. He served in the US Navy in WWII including 19 months in the Pacific Theatre. A career with the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Co. was interrupted during the Korean Conflict when Art enlisted in the Michigan Air National Guard. He served 18 months at Luke AFB where he fell in love with Arizona. Art is survived by his beloved wife Joan DeBose whom he met back in Michigan in 1954. They were married on Sept. 24, 1955. He is also survived by daughter Diane and husband Jack Penland of Freeland, WA, son Craig and wife Nikki of Phoenix, AZ, and his two wonderful grandchildren, Tanner and Carter Robinson. Son, Scott, preceded Art in death in 1982. Joan and Art moved to Arizona in 1957 where Art worked in the title insurance business. He retired at the age of 62 in 1987 with several awards from the Arizona State Escrow Assn. Art was a lifelong member of the Lions, first in Glendale and then in Sun City. He held every office in the Lions Club and earned the District Governors Outstanding Bulletin Award three times. Art was a member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge #23 F&AM for over 60 years, and a charter member of the Glendale Sertoma Club. He loved to travel with his wife Jo, taking her on 9 cruises, travel trailering across the US and Canada, including Alaska and a trip to Mexico City in 1972. Art felt one of his greatest achievements was quitting smoking cold-turkey on Jan. 1, 1988 after 40 years of smoking which began with the cigarettes provided in military K-rations during WWII. Unfortunately, although all of the cancer was removed with two lobes of his right lung, nothing could be done about the emphysema which he battled courageously for six years. The disease finally took Art’s life on July 26, 2012. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center. Funeral service 9:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City, AZ.
