Arthur H. Nickless died on September 25 at his home in Sun City West at the age of 88. Born inBay City,Michiganand a graduate ofBay CityCentralHigh School, Mr. Nickless served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during World War II. He had been married 60 years to Helen Marie Miller, who predeceased him in 2004. She was "Her majesty the Queen" and he was "Mr. Perfect." Retiring in 1988, his career spanned more than 40 years in the telephone communications business, owner of the Wolverine Telephone Company, independent telephone companies throughout Mid-Michigan. His interest in communications remained keen and he was well known in the SCW community as a computer expert often called upon to teach, install, and repair computers. A member of Briarwood Country Club in SCW and Bay City Country Club inMichigan, he enjoyed golf. Other interests over the years included building and flying model airplanes. But what he will be most remembered for is his generosity which includes providing more than 20 college scholarships in bothMichiganandArizona. His real love, however, was his family. Surviving him are his three daughters: Joanie Tankersley ofRedwood City,CA; Janet Royce ofAllendale,MI, and Judy Graham ofRye,NYand their spouses; four grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
