Ann Vincent Fitzgerald, 82, passed peacefully Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Moonlight Manor in Surprise, Arizona. She was born to the late Emma Katherine Smith Vincent and Emanuel Leo Vincent on March 28, 1937 in Schaghticoke, New York.
She attended grammar and high school in Mechanicville, New York and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education Cum Laude from the State University of New York; College For Teachers at Albany. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles, California and began working at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Ann married her late husband William P. Fitzgerald in 1967 and through his career they enthusiastically lived and traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii; Rome, Italy; London, England and eventually back to Los Angeles, California.
In 1976, they moved to Oxnard, California and shortly thereafter she began working for The Department of the Navy, Air Systems Command in Point Mugu, California where she held various positions within the F-14 Flight Test Division.
Ann retired to Peoria, Arizona in 2005, where family and friends were her passion and delight. She actively held rewarding positions within her parish at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and volunteered for The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
She was an avid reader and war movie fan. She loved to travel and entertain. People gravitated toward her constant smile, warm demeanor, generous nature, quick wit and adventurous spirit. She genuinely cared about people and was interested in their personal stories – just spend ten minutes with her and she would know your entire life story and make you laugh along the way. These personal experiences and helping those in need enriched her life and kept her fully engaged with those around her.
Predeceased by her sister, Katherine Janet LaVigna; Ann is survived by her daughter, Amy F. Hicks, her husband Noah W. Hicks and their two children, Patrick W. Hicks and Michael F. Hicks. She is also survived by her nephew Vincent J. LaVigna, her niece Barbara A. LaVigna and her husband Drew Kramer; as well as countless loving relatives and close friends who she cherished.
The rosary will be at 9:30 AM and a funeral mass will be held Friday, March 20, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 West Palmeras Drive, Sun City, Arizona. Due to the COVID-19 panademic, the Catholic Diocese has made specific limitations to the gathering. Guests are invited to attend the service via Facebook Live at facebook.com/amy.f.hicks.89
