Our beloved Ana V. Avila, 77, of Surprise, AZ, passed away on June 8, surrounded by her family. Born Jan 27th, 1935, to Catarina and Rafael Vasquez, Ana completed her education in El Paso, TX and later moved to Peoria, AZ. After meeting her husband Ana moved to Southern California, ultimately settling in the quiet beachside town of El Segundo where they raised their family. Ana rejoined the workforce in the early 80's as a sales clerk for two local merchants where she gained several close friendships and was fondly known for enlightening the days work with a practical joke or two. After retiring from United Airlines, and the passing of her husband Peter Avila of 45 years, Ana chose to relocate to Arizona to be near her brothers and sisters. Like her father, Ana was always quick to help others, and like her mother, she had a love for cooking. One could never turn away her homemade tortillas, enchiladas, tamales, or her savory chile picoso. Through the years, Ana enjoyed sewing & quilting, gardening, antiquing and travelling. We are forever touched by Ana's charismatic personality, vivacious laugh, and generous nature. Ana's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her children Nancy, Vicky, Catherine, Daniel, Greg, Jo Ann and Sonja, their spouses, 19 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Ana is also survived by 5 brothers, 4 sisters, several uncles, aunts, and cousins. A visitation will be held on June 15 (5-7pm) at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 N. 103rd Ave. in Sun City with a rosary following. Mass will be held on June 16 (10am) at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West. In lieu of flowers Ana requested donations be made in her name to the Hospice of the Valley (Surprise, AZ).
