Alice Phillips

December 31, 1969 — June 29, 2008

Alice Marie Phillips of Sun City passed away on June 29, 2008. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 16, 1921, the daughter of George and Nan Duncan. Alice's husband of 61 years, Gordon, passed away December 1, 2006. Surviving are their sons, G. Edward and John Linda; granddaughters, Mary, Nicole and Jodi; grandsons, Eric and Chris; great grandchildren, Lyle and Wyatt, Cydney, Lisa and Alice's precious puppy, Oreo. Alice and Gordon moved to Sun City in 1979 from Pittsburg, Kansas after Alice retired from the public school system and Gordon retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a freight conductor. She was an elementary school teacher at George E. Nettles elementary school where she taught 3rd and 6th grade for nearly 20 years. Alice was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Women's group at her church and was a long standing volunteer at the Fairway Library. Alice held leadership roles that included being president of the NORAC HOA. She was an active instructor and participant of the Sun City water aerobics classes for many years. Alice was the rock that always held her family together and will be missed greatly. Her passing has left us all with heartache, but her love will always keep us warm. Alice's legacy will live on through the influence she had on her family. Her memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday July 5, 2008 at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center Chapel, 12420 N. 103rd Ave., followed by a reception at her home, 10913 W. Caron Dr., both in Sun City. As with Gordon, the family requests that memorials in Alice's name may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children in lieu of flowers.
